Landscape Photography

Landscape photography is the name given to the genre of photography that mostly focuses on geography, natural and wide-open spaces, details of land, water and sky that come together to form the image of what a photographer sees through his or her lens.

A common trait of landscape photography is the absence of humans in the pictures, but there are also many who do include one or more persons within a photograph, while keeping the focus on the area around them. For example, a photo of a crowded beach, of farmers in their crop, of surfers in the ocean and many more could still be considered as belonging to landscape photography, depending on who was behind the camera and the style used.

Landscape photography usually encompasses visual elements that form the image of a wild, free and totally undisturbed nature area. But there are exceptions to this rule be including people or even man-made structures, which most photographers prefer to exclude. Whether the human element is present or not, the primary concern of landscape photography is the land, area or space that man occupies, always focusing on the natural environment.

This is considered to be the most popular type of photography, available to both professionals and amateur photographers. These photos usually contain vacation locations to which people have traveled to. Most of the time they cover mountain sides, beaches, the sea or the ocean, waterfalls, valleys, canyons and many more.

The usual photograph containing the scenery is often done in the morning or in the evening, when sunrise and sunset offer a beautiful light. Pictures taken using this light usually look superior due to better contrast and sidelight, which permit a more detailed image to form.

Landscape photography has been used by many people to describe the beautiful surroundings they find themselves in and to attest to the natural beauty of the planet.
