Black and White Photography

Photography has been around as a form of art for centuries and has evolved along with the development of new technologies along the decades. It started out by combining various inventions and techniques discussed over time by many scientists and bright minds and came together in the 19th century with the invention of the camera.

The first form of photography was monochrome or black-and-white. Images developed as black-and-white capture information with the camera, but not as complete or detailed as color photography. Pictures present a hue from light to dark, with all the elements containing various percentages of black or white, giving a final grey tint.

Black-and-white photography is still present in today’s pictures and remains very popular among photographers. They can be created by using black and white film or paper as well as using computer programs for digital imagery. They give a certain classic feel to the subject captured. While not as realistic as a color version, BW photos do leave space for interpretation with their subtle nature.
